Highlighted

"You guys are all into that born again thing, which is great. We do need to be born again, since Jesus said that to a guy named Nicodemus. But if you tell me I have to be born again to enter the kingdom of God, I can tell you that you have to sell everything you have and give it to the poor, because Jesus said that to one guy too. But I guess that's why God invented highlighters, so we can highlight the parts we like and ignore the rest."

Emily Journal #5

As many of you know, Auburn got blessed with a bunch of snow this weekend! I slept late on Sunday and played with my friends all day long in the snow. The day consisted of extreme snow ball fights with one another, a truck full of little boys, and some other college students who joined in. When the fighting was over, we went to Taylors for some coffee and to thaw out. Most of my friends were tired or needed to study so many of them headed home. I decided that I would use my new burst of energy from the excitement of snow to entertain my best buddy, emily. I called Emily to see what she was up to. After I listened to the many things she had done alone in the snow, I decided to go pick her up. When I got to her house, Emily showed me this "town of little snowmen" that she had made (pictured). We headed back to my house to build another. When we got to my house, we immediately began working on our snowman. My roommate, Chatty came outside to help. The three of us worked very hard to roll up the snow just perfectly for the head, body, and base. When the three strangely shaped circles were finished, we went inside to find the appropriate apparel. We decided a black and white scarf, vanilla waffer eyes, carrot mouth, cinnamon stick nose, and a sombrero. Our snowman (pictured) was awesome! Some of our friends came over with their puppy so we played in the snow with him too. After a scary snowball fight (probably a little too much excitement for Emily in one sitting), we went inside. I made everyone some hot chocolate while we sat and fellowshipped. After about an hour and a half, I decided to take Emily home. It was one of my favorite days that we have spent together. We were both full of life and excited to share this day together. Emily really loves the snow just like me and I am thankful for a stress free time together!

Lyric Love

Lately, most of my time with the Lord has been inspired in different songs I've come in contact with. One amazing quality that I share with many of my friends is the passion, excitement, and love for music. On a weekly basis, I'll get a text from someone to "listen to this song" or "look up these lyrics"-just a great way to encourage one another. I thought I would write about a few and let you be encouraged as well.

#1. While I'm Waiting- John Waller
-Many of my friends are at crossroads right now. Their future is undecided and they are trusting the Lord with their next step. It encourages me to see people who are this way and aren't distraught because they have faith that the Lord is perfect in His timing and faithful to His children. Two of my friends on the GCM staff have really inspired me with their faith and trust in The Father as they are hearing Him to leave staff and not live in HK next semester. Talking with both of them, this song really reminds me of their obedience and patience.

Lyrics to While I'm Waiting :
I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Takeing every step in obedience
While I'm waiting
I will serve You
While I'm waiting
I will worship
While I'm waiting
I will not faint
I'll be running the race
Even while I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

#2. Too Proud- Enter the Worship Circle 4.  (see previous blog)

#3. Sing Us a New Song- Enter the Worship Circle, Chair and Mic #2
This song was sent to me by a friend and I have really appreciated it. I am unsure what she gets from it but since the Lord speaks to us in His own voice in us, I hear him really like this one. The Lord is all about loving His children. He loves us so much that He takes the time to count and know every hair on our heads. For thick headed people like myself, this one really shows His admiration. He sees beauty in EVERYTHING and EVERYONE He creates. The fact that the same God who made that beautiful sunset outside, the clouds that dominate the sky, the ocean that covers the Earth, and even the little bitty ants on the ground-takes time to love each and every person individually is beyond human comprehension. The love God has for us is so undeniable, unattainable, and unreal. This song just helps try to put how much He cares for us into perspective for me.

The Lord He thunders from heaven
And his voice can stop this world
He created the day and the night
Still he knit together this little girl

Chorus:
Oh you could sing us a new song
Or you could stand up and say (hallelujah)
You love me today

Verse:
He gathers the sea into jars
And he calls the stars by name
Clothes the flowers in every field
And he loves me just the same

Verse:
The earth trembles and the mountains shake
And the wind can blow so strong
All of creation waits for the day
When you call your children home

#4. He Lives In You- Lion King
This song has really played a huge role in my community and body of friends. We sang it a couple times to and fro the Beach the other weekend. To me, it really describes my group of friends. Each person seems to reflect the character of Christ. I believe that Jesus' spirit lives in those who have called Him Lord of their lives. Therefore, I know I am seeing Him in each of my friends. Each time someone comforts, encourages, edifies, helps, and loves on another, I know that the Lord is being reflected through them. I hope you have people that shine Jesus through them in your life because it's a much better day to hang out with many who resemble the most amazing friend in the entire world than living out the flesh.

Ingonyama nengw enamabala
Ingonyama nengw enamabala

Night and the spirit of life calling
Oh, oh, iyo mamela oh, oh, iyo
And the voice with the fear of a child answers
Oh, oh, iyo iyo mamela

Wait! theres no mountain too great
Hear these words and have faith
Oh, oh, iyo
Have faith
Hela hey mamela, hela hey mamela
Hela hey mamela, hela hey mamela

He lives in you, he lives in me (hela hey mamela)
He watches over everything we see
Into the waters, into the truth
In your reflection, he lives in you

Dream, and the voice in the wind whispers
Oh, oh, iyo, iyo mamela oh, oh, iyo

Wait! theres no mountain too great
Hear these words and have faith
Oh, oh, iyo

He lives in you, he lives in me
He watches over everything we see
Into the waters, into the truth
In your reflection, he lives in you

Ingonyama nengw enamabala
Ingonyama nengw enamabala

He lives in you, he lives in me
He watches over everything we see
Into the water, into the truth
In your reflection, he lives in you

He lives in you (oh yeah), he lives in me
He watches over everything we see
Into the water, into the truth
In your reflection, he lives, he lives, he lives, he lives in you

He lives, he lives, he lives in you
He watches over everything we see

These songs are very moving so I would encourage you to go and listen to them on youtube, itunes, wherever. I hope this could encourage you today. Love.

TOO PROUD

Too Proud

Sometimes when I hear a song, it just resonates deep in my soul. That happened last week when we went running and I gave a new CD a first listen. The song that stood out is called "Too Proud" and is lyrically simple, yet powerful. It is on the new "Enter the Worship Circle "album called "4th Circle" and is similar to their previous 3 worship records. Here are the lyrics:

Too Proud
"I’m too proud to ask, too broke to eat
Too weak to bow, too strong to bleed

Can you sing over me words of comfort
Can you satisfy me, sweet honey
Can you break through me, with your strong hands
Can you undo me, enough to heal me

You take the weight from my shoulders
My hands were clinched now they’re open
I’ll take your goodness, pour it from the sky
Food from the ravens, water from the dry well"

While I was running I found myself just opening my clinched fists and receiving God's goodness. Something about the combination of sweat, sunshine, snowcapped mountains, and guitar strings just stirs my soul.

Journal #4 - Valentines Day

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EMILY!!!!!
.Well for Valentines Day, Emily and I hung out at my house for 3 hours. We watched her favorite new movie. High School Musical 3 was actually a pretty fun movie to watch. She loves the mean girl (Ashley Tisdale) so I give her a hard time about that. After the movie, Emily and I went and picked up some Subway. As she ate her sand which we sat in the car outside of her cheer leading place. I was kind of minding my own business when she said, "Ya, that's how I show my love." When I realized what she was referring to, I was really touched. The song playing in my car was "I cannot hide my love" by Second Circle which says this:
"I cannot hide my love, I cannot hide my love
My feet will have to dance, My heart will have to sing."
She told me that this is how she fills when she is having a good time or wants to enjoy/ love others. She says it just fills up and she loves dancing and singing. I told her she was right because she does really love to dance and sing which obviously shows her joy and love for the moments she's in. I explained to her that this is how I feel when I am worshipping or in the presence of the Lord. He overwhelms me and I am so in love with him that it is like an overflow. It was a really great moment of truth for me. I am continuing to learn and grow through my friendship with Emily. I am so thankful for these moments where the Lord steps in and shows me how much He loves my Best Buddy too. Thanks for reading

random story.

The other day in lab, I heard this girl make the strangest statement:

A guy walked in and they were discussing the test they would take next class. She asked him if he studied, and he replied (in a duh like fashion), "No, but I have the old test right here and I know they are always the same." Here it comes.... Ready? -left out the curse words just for you!

She said, "If you let me study those, you would be my SAVIOR!"

Hmm... Personally, I want a savior who died for me so that my sins could be forgiven and I could have the opportunity to know God in a personal relationship and live life on Earth with the purpose of glorifying Him.

Either way, we will both stand and look at our tests soon. I don't know about her, but I guarantee you that on my test in Heaven, I have already made an A because My SAVIOR went before me.
